JOEL FERRELL RECIPIENT IN DANCE TENISHA SCHILD

The AAU, along with the assistance and the guidance of the Joel Ferrell family, established the Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award to recognize the athletic ability and sportsmanship of an athlete representing each official sport at the AAU Junior Olympic Games. In addition to the award presented at the Games, each recipient's name will be engraved on a special plaque at the AAU National Headquarters.

Joel Ferrell, a former aerospace engineer, made numerous contributions to the AAU. He held several positions with the AAU, including the presidency from 1976-78. He was also a vice president of the USOC. In December 1988, he passed away in his hometown of Tullahoma, Tennessee.

This award is the most prestigious award given in the AAU Junior Olympic Games. This year the Joel Ferrell for AAU Dance goes to Tenisha Schild.

Tenisha Schild competed with her first solo at age 14 months where she took Queen. She has been dancing under the direction of her mother, Wendy Schild, owner of Diva Dance Company for 13 years. She has received numerous queen awards.

In this years dance season, she won five overall high point solo awards in a row at different competitions. At one contest she was chosen to be on the All American National Team at Open Dance Nationals. She has performed in Disneyland twice and also has performed in the Sugar Bowl and the Holiday Bowl. She was selected to perform at a Utah Jazz Basketball game through an audition. Tenisha has also performed numerous times at the Stadium of Fire at B.Y.U. in Provo, Utah.

She won a gold medal at the AAU Junior Olympics in 2005 and was overwhelmed to win the Joel Ferrell award in 2006. This is now the highlight of her life. Her Joel Ferrell award is her most prized possession.

Her dream is to someday embark on a professional dance career or to teach dance on a college level.
